“The Challenge made me step up my fitness efforts.”


Life as an expat has thrown up a lot of challenges but an unforeseen one for me was the socialising. Moving to a new country and needing to make friends can mean a LOT of restaurants, bars and the calories that go with it.


4 years ago I was looking at my recent holiday snaps and was horrified to see what my body had gradually become. I needed to make a change and was dragged along to a boot camp class with a friend. Over the next 3 years that class also became my social group – we bonded, laughed, supported each other and gradually evolved life long friendships.


Last summer we got dealt the worst expat card and our whole group moved away from Shanghai – apart from me.


This time another friend (who used to occasionally come to boot camp) told me about K2FIT. It turned out there were lots of people in our area who used the K2FIT programs so I thought I’d give it a go. I started gradually with a free “14 days To Fit” then went on to “30 days Strong”. I was hooked… which turned out to be a good thing because then the Coronavirus hit – but I had something to do and I could work out at home!


Taking part in my first 10 week Challenge made me step up my effort and I was so proud to come in third in the 40+ category. I “cheated” with my food occasionally occasionally and still had a few meals and drinks out with friends, but I managed to keep the balance and I’m so proud of myself! I still need the social interaction and love that a group of us meet at our gym every morning but I know the support is there even if I’m on my own. And my personal icing on the cake is that two of my old boot camp buddies (now living in Sweden and Brazil) have also joined with me, I love seeing their sweaty pictures after a workout!


My physical and mental improvement over the last 4 years is great but I know my journey will continue as long as I’m able to and I can’t wait to see how my body will develop. Thanks K2Fit!
